What is the difference between PCR-test and Antigentest?
Both PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and Antigen tests are used to diagnose Covid-19 and both tests show if you have an ongoing Covid-19 infection. PCR tests are considered to show a more secure and reliable result since it is more sensitive to discover the infection in the body, even if you have very low virus levels. A PCR-test can detect the virus even before you get symptoms. With an Antigen test you will receive the result faster but to detect the infection in your body you will need to have higher levels of the virus.
An Antigen test is a rapid test that is entirely based on a saliva sampling. A PCR-test is sampled by a throat or a nose swab. At Testmottagningen, we do the throat swab. The sampling swab is carefully inserted into the back of the throat by our experienced staff and gently spun around for about 5-10 seconds.
